If only the sides — limp, overcooked broccoli; ridiculously wet creamed spinach — had displayed the same flair. Ideal for pre and post theatre supper. Pretty fast and efficient service for it's size and it's central location.

Sophie's Steakhouse & Bar

Always busy. Simple formula; no frills but also you know exactly what you're getting and sometimes it's just what you fancy! Great place for cocktails, and loads of tables in an area that is usually pretty busy in the evening. Bit on the pricey side and not always consistent in quality, but there are a few things that keep me coming back. It's a bit of a meat overload but how can that be a bad thing?! The restaurant itself is very much in the style of 00's New York with lights dripping from the ceiling and a view into their huge meat fridge to entice you.

It's also very touristy but this could be due to the location more than anything.

Though the menu has greatly changed since I originally started going to this restaurant. I would recommend the steaks to share, the green beans and mashed potatoes are particularly good sides. It would be great to have a larger selection of starters and desserts from this restaurant. This is a great value steakhouse. With a no booking policy and plenty of seats you can easily rock up and get a table.

The quality on offer is great as is the wine list. It's a no frills, easy option. It's in the name, the steak is a must. And the complimentary salami is one of my favourite things about this place. I love Sophie's Steakhouse and I'm not afraid to say it. It's right in the centre of town, so perfect for pre and post theatre. The cocktails are fabulous, the staff are friendly, and it's a big old venue, meaning you don't often have to wait too long to get seated.

I often bring colleagues visiting from other countries here - it's got it all - good food, good atmosphere and it's actually pretty good value. Oh - and try the house salad with bacon and blue cheese dressing. It's probably calorific but it's off the charts good. Has the winning combination of a great atmosphere AND somewhere you can get a table any time.

Part of our pre-theatre ritual.

Last time we went before and after the theatre, in fact! The bar is buzzy and the theatre menu in the restaurant is good value and delicious. Check it out. I go here often and the food is always delicious and the service is super friendly. The complimentary salami which is offered as soon as you sit down always puts me in a great mood!
